It’s not just a great hotel filled with great architecture! I found out on a visit to Scottsdale a piece of cocktail history lives at The Arizona Biltmore. The architect Frank Lloyd Wright has been one of my favorites since I was in art class in high-school. Over the years I’ve become an amateur scholar of his work so when my family was in Scottsdale the Arizona Biltmore, consulted on by Wright and designed by his student Albert Chase McArther, was on the list.
Imagine my surprise when I found that aside from an amazing architect and history the hotel also is the birthplace of the Tequila Sunrise. Naturally I was on vacation so I had to try one! Here is the recipe for you to try at home for your next gathering. Believe it or not bartender Gene Sulit came up with this famous drink on the spur of the moment when asked for a pool side drink.

Fill a tall glass with cracked ice. Add the tequila, crème de cassis and a squeeze of fresh lime juice. Fill with club soda. Garnish with a lime wedge.
