The Eve of a New Year - Garden Journal 12/31/19

Updated: Dec 31, 2022

Clear, Brisk, Light Wind 51°F

2019 has been a very eventful year for my family and a seminal year of change. Beginning first with the death of my beloved Grandmother on January 2nd, the selling of our home in April and moving into a new home in July. I call it "My Year of Beautiful Trauma". In late 2018 I closed my thriving advertising, graphic design and photography business of 22 years due to stress that was killing me each day. In 2019 I began to realize my dream of cooking, gardening and painting as therapy for me and documenting my journey as a way of inspiring the creativity of others through this blog, Boots and Bow Ties.

On this last day of the decade I'm hopeful and excited about the year and decade ahead for many reasons. I can't wait to get my hands in the dirt and begin what hopefully will be a labor of many decades of garden joy. Now that Christmas has come to an end I'm filled with dreams of vegetables to build the French kitchen garden. I'm forming ideas of what to plant in the totally blank herbaceous boarders, window boxes, shrub gardens and containers. In short I'm dreaming of spring and summer and the bounty ahead and using this time of cold short days to plan.

I wish you blessings for the New Year.
